We all know how influential our mornings can be. A refreshing, positive start to the day can set the tone for the hours ahead and help guide you towards a productive day. If you start the day feeling tired or overwhelmed, it’s easy to lose track of time or not feel like you’re making progress.
To help you create a positive morning routine, here are five things to do every morning for a productive start.
1. Wake Up Early
While we only have a limited number of hours in a day, we can claim back some of that precious time to help us start the day off right. Try to get into the habit of waking up earlier than usual and see what happens.
Ease into this step one day at a time. If you normally wake up at 8am, set your alarm tomorrow for 7.45am. Increase this each day until you’re waking up an hour earlier than usual. You’ll then have more time in your morning to dedicate to a healthy morning routine.
2. Stay Hydrated
It’s so important to stay hydrated, so enjoy a glass of water when you wake up and carry this healthy habit on throughout the day. Keep a glass or bottle of water by your side and sip regularly.
While there’s no set recommended amount of water to drink per day, it’s a good idea to get into the habit of drinking regularly. You don’t want to wait until you’re thirsty, as by then you’re already past the point of needing some hydration.
3. Eat a Good Breakfast
Along with making sure you stay hydrated, it’s also important to fuel your body with energy for the day. While some of us skip breakfast, it’s one of those meals you ideally don’t want to miss.
We all have our own preferences when it comes to what we eat. Your ideal breakfast might be scrambled eggs or avocado on toast, or it could be overnight oats and an organic yogurt. Try and choose something healthy that’ll give you plenty of energy.
4. Move Your Body
Time is precious and it’s often hard to find the right moment to workout or go for a run. Now that you’re waking up earlier, you can use some of that time to move your body and enjoy some light exercise.
If you only have 15 minutes or so, try a quick yoga video on YouTube. For days when the weather’s bad or you can’t make it out of the house, swap your walk around the block for an indoor walk. It’s all about finding a way to move your body that suits your needs and lifestyle.
5. Plan Your Day
Before you jump into the rest of your day or the start of your work day, make sure you have a rough plan of what you’ll be doing. It also helps to set a goal for the day – this might be a work goal or it could be more personal, like learning a new skill.
You don’t need to plan out every minute, but give yourself an outline so you can stay on track and make progress towards your goals. Pull out a diary and block out your time or create a to-do list for your morning, afternoon, and evening. Find something that works for you and make this part of your daily morning routine.
Create a Morning Routine for Success
Your morning routine can play a big role in how your day turns out. Take some time to create a morning routine that works for you and you’ll find it easier to deal with those challenging days or unexpected moments when they arise.
