We homeschool year round so we only take a short break for the summer. Since we were starting school this past monday, I decided I needed to find a better way to organize my All About Reading curriculum for my son who was starting Level 1 this year. My husband has been taking on some of the homeschooling this year and is teaching this subject, so I wanted to make it as easy as possible for him to grab-and-go with the curriculum.
My oldest had already been through the curriculum so there was a lot of little pieces of things floating around that needed to be organized. First I tried an accordion file, but it didn’t work for me because I couldn’t see the pieces that I needed. So I decided to use a nice 3-inch binder and some clear sheet protectors.
Basically I went through the teachers manual and put things for each lesson in a sheet protector. Now my husband can go to the teacher’s manual, grab the sheet with the days lesson, and start teaching without having to find everything. We also keep our readers on our bookshelf because we like to read the stories over and over again with all our kids.
To put the finishing touches on this binder, I plan to purchase a zippered pencil bag to keep the spelling tiles in when we’re not using them. This is great because it fits right in the 3 ring binder. I included an amazon link here but you can get them at Wal-Mart for about $1.
How do you organize your All About Reading curriculum? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
