Gift Ideas: Easy Playdough with the KitchenAid Mixer

Playdough-PinterestWe love making home-made gifts!  This year I decided to make home-made playdough with the boys for some of their younger cousins.  The playdough recipe was pretty basic, I just decided to forgo all the stirring and use my Professional Series KitchenAid Mixer to do all the work!

The great thing about making your own playdough is you have color options and also smell options.  I like to add my favorite essential oil blend from Spark Naturals, Jeddy’s Blend, to my playdough!  It is calming for anxiety and helps with focusing for kids and helps with ADD and ADHD.  I just add it with the water when blending, about 6 drops is a good start.  You can use my affiliate code for Spark Naturals by entering “JOY” at the checkout for a 10% discount.

Here’s the recipe for this wonderful playdough:KitchenAid

Easy Playdough

Ingredients:

2 cups flour

1 cup salt

2 tablespoons cream of tartar

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 1/2 cups boiling water

Optional: food coloring, essential oils

Combine dry ingredients in your KitchenAid mixer bowl.  Turn on “stir” to combine ingredients for about 5 seconds.  Drizzle dry ingredients with vegetable oil and food coloring and “stir” again for about 5 seconds.  Heat water to boiling either on stove or in microwave.  (I add my essential oils to water and stir well before pouring into dry ingredients)  Pour water into dry ingredients and then set mixer on “2” and let mix with the flat beater until the consistency is right.  I let mine mix about 4-5 minutes because as the dough cools, the texture is firmer and more “playdough-like.”  That’s it! Perfect playdough without the hand mixing!
